Kakavaberd is one of the rare well-preserved fortresses in modern Armenia. The Fortress of Kakavaberd was first mentioned in the 9th and 10th centuries. It is located in Khosrov Forest State Reserve in Ararat province. The fortress overlooks Azat Gorge and is inaccessible from three sides. The ruins of a medieval church and several other structures can be found within the fortress.
