Dadivank Monastery

Foundation: 9 - 13th century

Location: Shahumian Region, Artsakh

Distance from Yerevan: 230km / 3 hours

Dadivank or Khutavank (monastery on the Hill) is supposed to be founded at the end of the 1st century AD by St. Dadi apostle, who spread Christianity in Eastern Armenia; his grave was discovered under the altar of the main church. However, the monastery was first mentioned in the 9th century.

 

The complex:

  • Church of the Holy Virgin (St. Astvadzadzin);
  • St. Grigor chapel (13th century);
  • Memorial Cathedral Katoghike (1214), the interior is richly decorated with frescoes. In 1241 the Gavit was built to the church;
  • Memorial Bell-Tower;
  • Auxiliary buildings.
