Teghenyats Monastery

Foundation: 7 - 8th century

Location: Buzhakan Village, Kotayk Province

Distance from Yerevan:  38 km / 50 minutes

Teghenyats Monastery is located on forested slopes of the Tsaghkunyats mountain range. The certain date of foundation is unclear. It is supposed to be founded in the 11th - 12th centuries, but according to bibliographic and epigraphic sources the monastery was functioning most possibly from the 7th -8th centuries till the 17th century. Beautifully nestled in the forest, the monastery had unique architecture richly decorated with floral and geographical ornaments. It is currently in ruins.

  • Khachkars (Cross – stones)
