The Cathedral of Aruch

Foundation: 7th century

Location: Aragatsotn Province

Distance from Yerevan:  47 km / 1 hour

Aruchavank or the Cathedral of Aruch (also St. Grigor) is located in Aruch village, close to the town of Ashtarak. It was built during the reign of Prince Grigor Mamikonian in 662-666. The church is a domed hall type with the interior beautifully decorated by frescoes.

The remains of the palace complex of Prince Grigor Mamikonian can be found on the south side of St. Grigor church.

Another site to visit in the village is the Aruch Caravanserai (13th century).
