Armenia is a land-locked country in the crossroad of Europe & Asia. Although it has closed borders with two of its four neighbors, getting to Armenia is very easy; you will be able to fit in your budget & comfort requirements by picking up one or a combination of transportation means.

Getting to Armenia by airplane

Armenia has one of the best & modern international airports in the region, "Zvartnots International airport" which is connected to over 50 European, Asian & African cities.

The Airport is located 12 km away from the capital city Yerevan, and is easily accessible all day long. It has a transit zone, providing services to transit & transfer passengers, including permission for visiting the city.

The airport handles any type of modern commercial aircraft, with 15,000 international flights annually.

Armenia also receives passengers at "Shirak” airport, granted by the status of ICAO First Class Airport.

Travel around by the railway

Armenia operates internal railway which also connects Armenia to Georgia. Recently, Armenia & Iran are actively developing the railway project concept to connect both countries.

The railway connecting Armenia & Georgia has two passenger lines, Yerevan to Tbilisi & Yerevan to Batumi.

Yerevan - Tbilisi: operates round the year – Travel time: 10 hours;

Yerevan – Batumi: operates only in summer – Travel time: 15 hours.

Although conditions of the train do not meet European standards, however, it satisfies easy-going passengers.
Ticket prices are around 25-30 USD, making it reasonable to economy your travel budget.

Getting to Armenia by car/bus

Armenia has open land borders with Georgia & Iran. Mini-buses go back and forth to Georgia on a daily basis which will cost around 30 USD per person.
Passenger buses travel to & from Iran (Tehran and Tabriz cities) on a daily basis. It will take almost 20 hours to get to Yerevan from Tehran.
You can also travel on your personal vehicle – driving non-stop over night or taking a night rest in comfortable hotels or guesthouses in Agarak – the border town next to Meghri, Kajaran and Goris.
Before heading to the road on your vehicle, make sure that your driving lisence is acceptable in Armenia.

Cycling to Armenia through Georgia and Iran has also turned to become very common among cyclists from all over the World. You will be cycling up steep roads and speding down the hill all way long.

Make sure to have all required spare parts and gear you might need in bad weather conditions. However, let us ssure you that the locals won't let you down and will give you a ride and might even ask you spend hours at their home until the weather settles down for a safe trip.

If you are traveling to Armenia, you might need a visa for your trip.
Use the visa search tool in the official website of Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of RA to find out if you are required to obtain a visa or not.

Who needs a visa to travel to Armenia?

Check out MFA's website to find out wether you will need to issue an entrance via or not. You will find the below information:

List of countries whose nationals are unilaterally exempted from the requirement of obtaining a visa,
List of countries, with which Armenia has a visa-free regime according to bilateral and multilateral agreements, and
List of countries nationals of which could apply for visitor visa only with invitation.
List of the countries who’s citizens can obtain Armenian visas upon arrival in Armenia.

Holders of all other national passports and travel documents, including UN Laissez-Passer, are required to obtain an entry visa.

Citizens of foreign countries for whom a visa-free regime is set can stay on the territory of the Republic of Armenia for no more than 180 days during one year if no other term is defined by the international agreements of the Republic of Armenia.
